Summer 2010... Verano 2010

The summer has gone by too fast!  I went on a wonderul trip with my sister, Rachel.  We visited Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula! 
El verano ha pasado muy rapido!  Fui por un vacacion con mi hermana Rachel.  Visitamos a Seattle y la peninsula Olympica!

My summer... Mi verano...

Wow, what a summer! I have been hired to teach at a new school, visited family in LA, finished my master's degree, moved into a new house down the street, and have gone on a road trip to Disneyland! Too much fun! I'm ready for another summer! :)

Wow, que verano! He sido contratada de ensenar en una nueva escuela, he visitado a mi familia en Los Angeles, he terminado mi post grado, he mudado a una casa nueva por la misma calle, y he viajado en carro a Disneylandia! Me ha disfrutado demasiado! Estoy lista para un verano mas!

Teaching Story

I moved to Walla Walla in September 2008. I started working for Walla Walla Public Schools as a substitute teacher in October. After a few weeks I met a wonderful bilingual third grade teacher who needed a substitute while she went on maternity leave. I started teaching third grade at Prospect Point Elementary School right around Thanksgiving. I was teaching in English because the students were transitioning out of Spanish by that time. After Mrs. Moreno returned, I was hired to work with the ESL teacher at Prospect Point, leading small reading groups at all grade levels. It was so much fun! Thank you Prospect Point!

Me mude a Walla Walla en septiembre 2008. Empece a trabajar por el distrito de escuelas publicas en Walla Walla como maestra de replente en octubre. Despues de unas semanas conoce una maestra maravillosa y bilingue quien necesito una maestra de replente cuando fue para tener su bebe. Empeze a ensenar el tercer grado en la escuela primaria Prospect Point en noviembre. Estaba ensenando en ingles porque los estudiantes estaban en transicion de espanol a ingles en ese tiempo. Despues de que regreso la Sra.Moreno, fui contratado a trabajar con la maestra de Ingles como Segunda Idioma en Prospect Point, dando clases de lectura a grupos pequenos de todos grados. Me diverti tanto! Gracias Prospect Point!

The first day of summer 2009 I found out I had been hired to teach fourth grade at Edison Elementary! This is amazing and exciting and an incredible blessing for many reasons:

1) It's extremely hard for teachers (and everyone else) to find jobs right now.

2) This school is a perfect fit for me - We are starting a dual-immersion Spanish program. In a few years I will most likely be teaching in Spanish! There will be a multicultural, multilingual focus at Edison throughout the entire school.

3) Some wonderful teaching friends that I met at Prospect Point will also be moving to Edison with me, as the bilingual program changes schools. They have been nothing but encouraging and supportive to me. Thank you! :)

4) Edison was a small school in a very old but classic building. They decided to build a new school building which is much bigger and is full of brand new technology! I am SO excited to learn about all the new toys I get to play with while I teach :)

5) I could go on and on about this new job... As you can tell I am EXCITED! God has blessed me so much - I am in the right place at the right time with the right people!

El primer dia de verano 2009 me informe que habia contratado de ensenar el cuarto grado en la escuela primaria Edison! Este es emocionante para mi y una bendicion increible por muchas razones:

1) Es difilisimo encontrar trabajo para maestras (y todos) ahora.

2) Esta escuela es perfecta para mi - Vamos a empezar una programa nueva de immersion dual en espanol. En unos anos estare ensenando en espanol! Tendremos un foco mulicultural y multilingue en la escuela entera.

3) Unas amigas maravillosas de Prospect Point van a mudar a Edison conmigo; la programa bilingue va a cambiar de escuelas. Ellas me han dado mucho apoyo. Gracias! :)

4) Antes Edison era una escuela pequena en un edificio viejo pero clasico. Ellos decidieron de construir un edificio nuevo que es mucho mas grande y esta llena de tecnologia nueva! Estoy muy emocionante de aprender sobre los juguetes con que puedo usar para ensenar. :)

5) Podria hablar para siempre de este trabajo nuevo. Como puede ver, estoy EMOCIONANTE! Dios me ha bendecido tanto - estoy en el lugar perfecto en la hora perfecta con la gente perfecta!

This city has so much charm. Being from California, I am amazed at the seasons! Even though this year spring and fall were kind of short (and winter and summer have been extreme) I've loved seeing the changes!

Esta ciudad es preciosa. Porque soy de California, los estaciones me asombran! Aunque este ano la primavera y el otono eran cortitos (y el invierno y verano han estado extremados) me encanto de ver los cambios!

Stephanie's Wedding!

I was blessed to go to my good friend Stephanie's wedding on February 9th.
Stephanie and I taught in Paraguay and traveled together. She the best of friends! Congratulations to her and to her new husband Bryan! I can't wait to see them again!

Estaba bendecida de ir a la boda de mi amiga Stephanie el 9 de febrero. Stephanie y yo eramos maestras en Paraguay y viajamos juntas. Ella es una de mis mejores amigos! Felicidades a ella y a su esposo nuevo Bryan! No puedo esperar hasta el día que les veo otra vez!

2008 Already?

Where did it come from? It seems like yesterday that I was celebrating the arrival of 2007. Well, with the new year comes some newness for me, too. Well, kinda new. I bought a new car, got a new haircut, got a new camera for Christmas, and bought a new hard drive! (The old one crashed, so I've spent my vacation getting music from the sistahs. Yay for itunes cards, too!)

De donde vino el año nuevo? Parece que fue ayer que estaba celebrando el llegado del año 2007. Pues, con el año nuevo viene algunas cosas nuevas tambien. Pues, más o menos nuevas. Compré un auto nuevo, tengo un peinado nuevo, recibí una camera nueva para la Navidad, y compré un nuevo disco duro! (Lo viejo se murió, y por eso he pasado mi vacación sacando música de las computadoras de mis hermanitas. Viven los itunes cards, tambien!)

One of my former students from Paraguay is in San Diego with her family on vacation! She is almost as tall as me now and in 6th grade. We are having a great time catching up and remembering good times in 3rd grade at ACA!

Una de mis alumnas anteriores de Paraguay está en San Diego con su familia de vacaciones! Ella casí me ha alcanzado de altura y está en el sexto grado. Estamos divertiendonos mucho recordando las memorias del tercer grado en ACA!
